Potatoes
Mitolo Group's potato facility at Virginia incorporates two major processing lines which have a combined daily packing capacity of 500 tonnes. Quality is the focus as the potatoes are washed, graded, packed and then placed in cold storage to await transport to wholesalers and retailers throughout Australia.
Mitolo Group's processing and packing systems are at the cutting edge of fresh produce technology. Potatoes are washed in a sophisticated float tank and tumbler process, which applies gentle water pressure, thereby eliminating the need for traditional methods of harsh brushing and scrubbing which can sometimes damage the produce.
Produce is graded and sorted using state of the art Quantum Technology which identifies product by size, weight, colour, blemish and shape. This allows Mitolo Group to consistently provide product packed to rigorous quality specifications, while meeting the demanding handling requirement of our customer.
With the ability to process up to 45 tonnes of potatoes per hour, the efficiencies gained through this technology translate into labour savings which enable Mitolo Group to remain highly competitive in the market in terms of both cost and quality.
Onions
Mitolo Group's onion processing line at Virginia has the capacity to pack around 100 tonnes of onions each day.
After arriving at the Virginia complex, the outer husks and stems of onions are removed by sophisticated machinery. Onions are then sized using a state-of-the-art onion sizer, which allows for precise specifications and accuracy in size.
Advanced computer-controlled packaging technology is then used to bag the produce, while a thorough three-stage inspection process finally checks the onions for absolute premium quality.
